5th
Anniversary Celebrations
On Wednesday 17th
October at Brympton D’Evercy House, Nr Yeovil, Somerset Community
Foundation (SCF) celebrated its success over the last 5 years of supporting
communities across the county. The evening was attended by supporters
of the Foundation and dignitaries including their President, the Lord
Lieutenant Lady Gass and Mayor of Yeovil Town, Tony Lock.
Over the past 5 years the Foundation has awarded almost 400 grants
to local organisations providing much needed support across the county,
distributing over £1,800,000 to worthy causes. At the annual
celebrations guests met with several local groups who have received
a grant in the past 12 months, including the Good Fellowship Club,
Yeovil BiPolar Self-Help group, Time out Together, The South Somerset
Play Association, Yeovil Opportunity Club, and the South Somerset Women’s
Refuge.
One other group present was the MIAR project (Making Inclusion a Reality),
based at Birchfield Hall, Yeovil. They support children aged 5 to 13
who have difficulty accessing mainstream social and recreational activities.
Justin Sargent, Director of the Somerset Community Foundation said: “Combining
the passion of ROK’s staff for their local community with our
experience in targeting funds where they are most needed has made life
easier for everyone. MIAR is a very good example of a relatively small
community organisation where a small grant can make a big difference.
The Foundation is here to provide a flexible, professional service
to donors enabling them to reach maximise the impact of their local
giving in their local community.”
