The Mykka Grassroots Fund
The Somerset Community Foundation’s latest fundholder is the national furniture and homewares retailer Myakka, based in Wincanton. Director’s Georgie Hopkins and Simon Whitehead decided to invest in the Foundation to help support local community projects where they live in South Somerset.
“We are delighted to be in a position to support The Somerset Community Foundation and provide real benefit to our local community. As a Patron we will be pledging regular donations to build an endowment fund which will make a real difference to community projects in South Somerset right now, and over the coming years“, commented Simon.
Georgie and Simon presented their first instalment to Jane Lock, SCF trustee, and Director Justin Sargent. They are aiming to build an endowment fund of £25,000 over the next 2 years which will be directly used to benefit community projects in South Somerset through the named ‘Myakka Grass Roots Fund’. “I am pleased to welcome Myakka as our latest Named Fund holder, and I look forward to working with them to bring lasting benefits to local communities in the area. Their support will enable local communities to develop their own responses to their own needs.” commented Justin Sargent, Director of the Somerset Community Foundation.
The Somerset Community Foundation is the only charity in Somerset to be supported by the Government’s Grassroots Scheme. This scheme means the government will match new donations to the endowment fund by a 100% top-up.
