Since 2002 we have distributed almost £2 million to local charities and community organisations, reaching all corners of the county from the remotest parts of Exmoor to the centre of Yeovil. Almost 400 separate projects working with an estimated 8000 people have benefited from our support, establishing the Foundation as Somerset’s leading independent funder of community-led action.

Local organisations are particularly effective at understanding and responding to local needs through a variety of approaches. Our grants have supported a very wide range of community-led initiatives helping the most disadvantaged young people, vulnerable older people, innovative arts projects, environmental initiatives, disabled groups and women’s shelters (to name but a few).

An increasing number of local donors – individuals, companies and trusts - are using our knowledge, experience and expertise to maximise the impact of their ‘local giving’, working together with us to make a lasting difference where it matters most. We also help the Government and other national bodies distribute their funds locally.
