Somerset
Motor Project
Grant: Millfield Students’ Community
Fund, £647
Project: To purchase safety clothing and equipment
for adult clients
Background: Based in Glastonbury this charity
provides car mechanic training for different age groups of people
who have particular difficulties, such as exclusion from school,
registered at risk, offenders and other special needs. Many young
people achieve NVQ’s through the scheme and others gain in
confidence, self-esteem and skills, often helping them to move
on in their life.
The grant paid for equipment and clothing. Many of the adult members
who attend the Motor Project have learning difficulties or are suffering
from mental and physical health problems, but by coming to the group
they are able to gain in confidence and use new skills, often returning
back to a work, most importantly though, are the friendships they
develop and the supportive environment that they receive.
