The Somerset Disaster Recovery Fund was established at the close of the public appeal for support of the Somerset Flood Relief Fund on the 1st August 2014. Our appeal for the floods this year has been enormously successful, and at this time, we feel that we have raised enough money to help flood-affected communities in Somerset increase their resilience and recovery from the crisis as best we can.
There were some community fundraising activities such as organ recitals and swimming challenges still to come this Autumn. They were planned long before we set the closing date of the current appeal, and therefore it has been agreed with the organisers of these events that proceeds raised will remain with the flood relief fund.
However, all new and unexpected donations to the fund after the 1st August 2014 will be directed to the Somerset Disaster Recovery Fund.
Somerset Disaster RecoveryFund is used to:
- Provide grants to community groups that want to strengthen their communities' preparedness for and resilience against future episodes of flooding or other natural disasters (ex. volunteer management training).
- Provide emergency relief grants to people who experience hardship due to future episodes of flooding or other natural disasters.
