About the role

The trustees of Somerset Community Foundation are seeking a new Chair. There will be a transition period where the appointed person can work alongside our current Chair before she retires in autumn 2022.

We are seeking someone who is as passionate about making a difference in Somerset as we are, for this very rewarding role. The appointed person will have significant responsibilities, providing leadership to a unique Somerset charity promoting local philanthropy and providing grant funding to local charities and organisations.

This is an interesting and rewarding role, bringing the appointed person into contact with a wide range of people from all walks of life across the county and the UK network of Community Foundations.

Programme Manager (Somerset Social Enterprise Fund)

Hours: Part time (30 hours per week, 0.8FTE) with occasional evening and weekend commitments

Salary Band: c. £25,500 - £27,500 p.a. pro rata, depending on experience + pension contribution

Length of Contract: Two years with opportunities to extend subject to funding

Location: SCF operates a flexible working policy, including voluntary working from home arrangements. However, this post will be formally based at Yeoman House, Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet BA4 6QN with occasional travel throughout Somerset and, from time to time, beyond.

 

About the role

As someone who understands local charities and similar ‘not-for-profit’ organisations you will be helping ensure our Somerset Social Enterprise Fund (SSEF) continues to provide transformational funding. You will also help monitor the ongoing impact and performance of existing investments.  

The SSEF programme provides social investments in the form of blended loans and grants to help local organisations based in Somerset grow and/or increase their sustainability and independence. It is particularly designed for small and start-up organisations that would struggle to access social investments from other sources.

Independent External Grant Assessors (EGA)

Invitation to Tender

We are seeking to build a pool of external grant assessors (EGA) on a freelance self-employed basis who can provide additional help and support to the core SCF team. We will provide training, guidance and ongoing support during a commission. 

As a guide only we anticipate assessors will be asked to assess between 10 and 20 grant applications a year. We expect to build a pool of around 6 - 10 EGAs in Somerset. It is likely that you will be asked to assess a number of applications in 3 - 4 week windows. In normal circumstances we would be able to give you several weeks’ notice of work.
