How much money do we have to give out?

We have just under £90,000 to give out.  This comes from Made By Sport, a charity which raises awareness of the power of sport and funding for organisations that use sport to support young people across the UK. The #ClubsInCrisis fund is part of a wider campaign that believes sport is the best vehicle for creating societal change for young people across a myriad of challenges they face in the modern world.  Made by Sport is able to provide this money from the Cash4Clubs scheme. The Cash4Clubs scheme is funded by Flutter Entertainment Ltd. The donation being made by Flutter is the amount it benefitted from as a result of business rates relief, which was put in place from March 2020 to March 2021 for its shops in England. All applicants should consider this before applying for funding.

Made By Sport has partnered with community foundations across the UK to distribute £4.4m funding to organisations and sports clubs who deliver sports development programmes for young people up to the age of 25 through the #ClubsInCrisis Fund.

What sort of things do we want to give money for?

#ClubsInCrisis can fund clubs and organisations which can demonstrate that they are intentionally using sport to work towards one or more of the following outcomes:

If your organisation operates mostly in disadvantaged communities, often working collaboratively with other partners to meet local need, and may offer cross-sector activities, and/or works with young people who are traditionally under-represented in sport, we would particularly like to hear from you.  We would also be interested to know if a grant from #ClubsInCrisis would help you to leverage other funding.

Who can apply for money?

You can apply if you work or volunteer for a:

  • registered charity or charitable incorporated organisation
  • community group with a constitution
  • community amateur sports club
  • community interest company limited by guarantee
  • community benefit society

Your organisation must be one of the above and have an annual turnover of up to £75,000 to be able to apply.

Your group must have a:

  • governing document or set of rules
  • committee or board of at least three unrelated people
  • bank account in its name with at least two unrelated signatories

Who can’t apply for money?

We will not give money to:

  • individuals, sole traders or private companies
  • organisations that do not support people who live in Somerset, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucester
  • organisations that have an annual turnover of over £75,000
  • activities that have already taken place or purchases that you have already made
  • groups that give money to another group, rather than spend it on their own activities
  • groups that have more than 12 months running costs in free reserves
  • the promotion of religion. But we will support secular activities run by faith-based groups
  • activities that are about animal welfare
  • Government linked bodies (excluding clubs who have received National Lottery or Sport England Funding)
  • Community sport clubs and organisations which only focus on developing and widening opportunities to participate (traditionally those voluntary sports clubs and organisations overseen by governing bodies) which are not intentionally working towards one of the five sport for development outcomes – click here for further details on the development outcomes
