No one should feel lonely at Christmas. Yet we know that 1 in 6 older people in Somerset often do. Loneliness can affect all of us, but the isolated nature of rural communities and the difficulty of accessing transport means that many of our neighbours find themselves lonely.
As part of our annual Surviving Winter appeal, which provides vital grants to older people living in fuel poverty, we wanted to do more to tackle the isolation that makes Christmas a very difficult time for some of our neighbours.
That's why we created The Festive Fund for Somerset, which last year funded 40 community Christmas meals across Somerset to bring people together who might otherwise spend the festive season alone.
Whilst we can't bring people together in person this year, we're offering grants of £250 to local charities who can spread festive cheer to people at home by delivering Christmas activities, gifts and meals to those of our neighbours at risk of loneliness.
The Festive Fund for Somerset, a special Somerset Community Foundation initiative, is looking for businesses or individuals who can donate £250 to sponsor Christmas meals in your community. Together, we can make this Christmas merry and brighter for our neighbours.
As a donor, you'll receive a specially created Christmas e-card, personalised with your logo or family name, that you can send to others to celebrate your support.
