How to apply

All you need to do is complete the application form and send it to us with the supporting documents indicated.  If you are unsure about the eligibility of your application you can, in the first instance, contact our grants team on 01749 344949.

Should I use the On-line or Paper-based Application Form?

We provide both an online application form and a paper-based one.  We strongly recommend that you use the online version.  You can draft and save versions until you are ready to submit.  We will not be able to see your draft versions.  By using this method you also save us precious staff resources inputting data into our database which means we will have more time to help you! 

If you use the online form, you will still be asked to submit a signed copy along with supporting material.

How we make decisions

In general terms, when we assess your application we are looking for evidence that it is a good quality proposal that has a strong social purpose and that you are the right organisation to carry it out.  We use the application form, supporting information and what you tell us to decide this.

If the application form is not fully completed or you have not sent us the additional information we ask for, we may send it back to you or keep it on hold until the additional information is received.

Complete applications are reviewed by a member of our grants team who may contact you by telephone or visit you.

If the application is eligible for funding, it is presented to the Mendip Hills Fund Advisory Panel for their consideration.

Once a decision has been made we will write to you.

We cannot make grants to all the applications we receive.  Your proposal may be worthwhile but we just might not have the right fund or enough money to award a grant.  If your application is turned down, we will tell you why it was not successful.


If you wish to challenge the decision you may do so, but only if your complaint is to do with the fairness of the process and not on the merits of the proposal.  Details of the appeals procedure will be made available on request.

Keeping people safe

If you work with children and young people, or vulnerable adults we will ask you about your safeguarding arrangements.  Our policy is that all groups applying for a grant who work with children and young people or vulnerable adults must have an appropriate policy before any grant is paid.
