Grants available to enrich the education of young people in West Somerset
Funding is available from the West Somerset Youth Trust for young people between the ages of 14 and 25 who reside in West Somerset or have strong links with the area, to help enrich their education. The round is open now, so interested parties can apply for grants from the Trust to help pay for course or event fees, travel costs, equipment or materials that will help to enrich their education. Grants are typically 25% of the total cost of the trip or event, with a maximum of £300. Previous grants have been awarded to attend international scouting jamborees, gap year trips, work experience placements, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and workshops at the National Youth Theatre.
The West Somerset Youth Trust is managed by Somerset Community Foundation (SCF), and SCF Programmes Manager Andy Ridgewell said “We want to make sure young people in West Somerset know all about the West Somerset Youth Trust, and can take advantage of this grant round. The funding available might just help them to go on a trip they’ve dreamed about, or enable them to explore a subject they don’t get the chance to learn about at school”. If you think you might be interested in applying for funding but want to chat to someone to find out more, please call Andy on 01479 344 949.
Application forms and more information are available on the Somerset Community Foundation website here. You will need to think about how you plan to fund the total cost of the trip or event, any other fundraising you need to undertake and plan a simple budget.
The closing date for applications is the 31st March, so don’t delay!
