Mary's Beat Awards First Grants

Jul 19, 2018

Mary's Beat, a memorial fund that was established last year to support individuals with physical and/or learning disabilities to access music therapy and outdoor adventures, has awarded its first two grants to individuals:

  • A young man struggling with serious mental issues and who had disengaged from school, has been awarded a grant of £500 towards the cost of attending the equine assisted learning activities at EAQ Manor Farm at Stocklinch, Somerset. Equine assisted learning uses horses to support teaching and personal development and can be very beneficial for children who find mainstream education challenging.
  • A grant of £200 will enable a young man living with cerebral palsy and epilepsy to purchase a season ticket and support his favourite football club in Devon. Football has always been his passion ever since he first went along to matches with his grandfather, when he was a young boy. Attending matches has helped give him the confidence to leave his house and will help to improve his social skills.

The fund is ongoing, with no deadline to apply and is open to people living in Somerset and Devon.
