Funding available for community groups in Taunton Deane

Community groups in the Borough of Taunton Deane can now apply for small grants of up to £1,000 [available from Mon, September 17]. The Taunton Deane Borough Council Voluntary and Community Sector Small Grants Fund, managed by Somerset Community Foundation on behalf of the Council, is accepting applications until Wednesday, October 31.

Local charities, community groups and social enterprises, based within the Borough of Taunton Deane, can apply for funding towards projects, capital purchases or ongoing running costs (also known as core costs).

Last year, 19 local groups were awarded a grant from the fund:

  • 2BU - £1,000 to provide group support for young LGBTQ+ people
  • Blackbrook Friendship Club - £750 to provide regular activities for older people
  • Central Taunton Scout Group - £500 for camping equipment
  • Conquest Centre - £1,000 towards equestrian activities for children with additional needs
  • Engage - £1,000 for a voluntary sector forum
  • Escape - £1,000 towards activities for children with disabilities and their families
  • GoCreate Taunton - £1,000 for the Taunton Live event
  • Kingston Community Partnership - £996 to action community plans
  • Mencap Taunton - £1,000 to run evening activities for adults with learning disabilities
  • North Taunton Partnership - £981 for a digital inclusion project
  • On Your Bike - £882 to run bikeability sessions
  • Taunton Opportunity Group - £1,000 towards core running costs
  • Taunton Stroke Club - £1,000 to provide regular activities
  • Taunton YMCA - £1,000 to run an early years service for local families
  • Trident Youth & Community Centre - £1,000 towards kitchen and toilet renovations
  • Wellington Choral Society - £1,000 for concert staging
  • West Buckland Friendship Club - £750 to provide regular activities for older people
  • WHERE - £1,000 to provide support to adults with physical disabilities or mental ill-health
  • Wiveliscombe Area Partnership - £1,000 towards the WiveyLink community transport scheme

Cllr Jane Warmington, Executive Councillor for Community Leadership at TDBC said: “I am really pleased that we are able to offer these grants to the voluntary and community groups that do so much in our area. This is one way we can support the good they do and I would urge them to take advantage of this opportunity to apply for funding towards running, delivery or project costs.”

Further funding is also available from the Taunton Youth & Community Centre Fund (TYCC). Grants of up to £2,000 for capital projects, such as building renovations and equipment costs that will benefit young people aged between 11-25 living in the Borough of Taunton Deane, are open for applications until Wednesday, October 31.
