Raising Aspirations open evenings attract potential mentors
Somerset Community Foundation held two open evenings at Court Fields School in Wellington and Taunton Academy during June to find people keen to become volunteer mentors to students.
Both events were very well attended by a mixture of business people, retired professionals and members of the local community. The open evenings gave attendees the chance to meet staff from the schools, the SCF Raising Aspirations team and existing mentors to gain a better understanding of what becoming a mentor involves. It is hoped that the majority of those who attended will put themselves forward as mentors and help this successful scheme as it is introdced in Taunton and Wellington.
Jenny Perez, Somerset Community Foundation’s mentor recruitment manager said "I am delighted to see so many people willing to volunteer their time for local schools in Taunton and Wellington, the schools are very committed and I know that the students will benefit enormously from having a mentor"
The Raising Aspirations team is still hoping to hear from more possible volunteer mentors in Taunton and particularly Wellington, so please do drop Jenny a line if you would like to find out more: email email@example.com or call 01749 344 949. It isn’t too late to show your interest in being part of this successful mentoring programme.
