The Somerset Arts Fund
We created The Somerset Arts Fund to raise vital funds and increase access to the arts for local young people and people from disadvantaged backgrounds. By supporting this Collective Giving Fund, you’ll join with others to make a greater impact with your giving.
The Somerset Arts Fund is driven by research and consultation with local arts organisations. This means your funds will be used to make the most impact possible.
The Fund aims to give more people in Somerset opportunities to enrich their lives, build new skills and confidence and improve their wellbeing, by getting involved with the arts.
Why we need your support to improve access to the arts in Somerset
Significant government funding cuts mean local arts organisations are facing an uphill struggle to keep going. School budgets are also stretched and there has been a 40% fall in young people taking arts GCSEs since 2010.
Access to the arts can have huge benefits for our young people. Creative expression supports communication skills, wellbeing and confidence and raises aspirations.
For adults and young people, getting involved in the arts can be life-changing. The arts can be a powerful tool for improving our mental health, expressing our struggles and finding solidarity and community. For many people, creative expression can change lives.

Your gift to The Somerset Arts Fund will help remove barriers like household income or access to transport and help more people experience and enjoy involvement with the arts.
Our Popera House is a fully functioning, solar-powered, self-contained miniature theatre that we take right into the heart of our rural communities. We’re fully inclusive and work with everyone from infants to pensioners. Our activities include an early years parent and child music group and a vocal recovery group for people with long Covid or respiratory issues. We also take The Popera House into schools where we deliver workshops. We’ve received several grants from SCF that helped us bring people together to share ideas and create their own work. We want people to understand that creativity doesn’t have to be the preserve of a particular group, but is open to everyone.
