The Somerset Wellbeing Fund

We created The Somerset Wellbeing Fund to raise vital funds for local people experiencing physical and mental health issues. By supporting this Collective Giving Fund, you’ll join with others to make a greater impact with your giving.

The Somerset Wellbeing Fund is driven by research and consultation with local charities, which means your donations will make the most impact possible.

Together we aim to significantly grow the funding we can provide to local charities who help people improve their wellbeing and live healthier, happier lives.

Our funding priorities

Our Fund is driven by research and consultation with the people and organisations that make a difference in Somerset.

As a result, we’re committed to these 3 priorities:

  • Supporting adults to maintain their own health and wellbeing through access to peer support groups, specialist substance abuse support and mental health and wellbeing activities.
  • Supporting projects which encourage those most at risk to reach out for mental health support during times of crisis.
  • Supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to have greater control over their health, work and social lives.

Why we need your help

We all need wellbeing support at some time in our lives. And people experiencing poverty, bereavement and isolation are more likely to experience mental health problems.

That’s why we support local work to improve wellbeing. From counselling to therapeutic gardening projects, bereavement support to debt advice – the people we fund change lives every day.

Here in Somerset:
  • Cases of depression are higher than in both England and the South West: the number of adults living with long-term mental health conditions has increased by 11% since 2018.
  • The risk of suicide is almost a quarter (23%) higher than in England – with men 2.5 times more likely to take their own lives than women.
  • People are waiting up to 20 days longer to get essential mental health treatment.

We offer subsidised days out, trips, events and activities to families who have a child with additional needs. What we do takes the pressure off and removes the stressful elements of a trip away, allowing the whole family the opportunity to relax. We also give subsidise around 50% of the cost. Everything’s taken care of so they can relax and enjoy their day. We’ve always received amazing advice from the Foundation over the years I’m so grateful to SCF for the help and support you’ve shown us over the years, making it much easier, and quicker to access funding so we can focus on supporting our members. It really is life-changing for so many families in Somerset.

Why collective giving works

When people give together, their donations go further. Collective giving means:

  • your donations are pooled to create greater impact
  • more funding can reach smaller, local groups that may struggle to access national funding, supported by our friendly local team
  • decisions are informed by local knowledge, research and lived experience
  • support can be flexible and responsive as local needs change.

Our Collective Giving Funds

Bringing your giving to life

When you donate to one of our Collective Giving Funds, you become part of a community of passionate people who want to change the world on our doorstep. As a donor, you’ll receive:

  • a dedicated annual impact report that shows the difference you’ve made, including case studies of charities and people you’ve helped
  • updates on our wider work at SCF, including research about local need and stories of how local groups we’ve funded are changing lives
  • recognition in our Annual Review and on our website (with your permission)
  • occasional invitations to events such as webinars or visits to projects supported by your donations.
