Outpouring of support for Together for West Somerset Appeal

There’s been an outpouring of support for Somerset Community Foundation’s (SCF) Together for West Somerset Appeal, launched in the wake of the tragic coach crash on 17 July in Exmoor. The Appeal has been supported by hundreds of local people, businesses, charitable trusts, and a donation from Somerset Council.
Two GoFundMe campaigns were set up by local resident Bobbie Rammond and Ewen Huffman, Lead Chaplain at Hinkley Point C. Both Bobbie and Ewen have chosen SCF as their trusted charity partner to distribute funds from their campaigns.
Ewen Huffman said:
“What began as a heartfelt response from Hinkley Point C’s Mental Health First Aiders quickly became a powerful expression of compassion across our workforce. We’ve been humbled to raise such an incredible amount to support the mental health and wellbeing of those affected by the tragic Minehead coach crash.
We’re grateful to be partnering with SCF, who will ensure the funds are carefully and appropriately distributed. Our thoughts and love remain with everyone impacted by this heartbreaking event.”
Justin Sargent, CEO at SCF, said:
“We’ve been deeply moved by the kindness shown by local people, community groups, local businesses and Somerset Council. In times like these, we truly see the strength of our communities as they rally behind those in need. Thanks to their generosity, we’ve already been able to support children and families directly affected by this tragedy, working closely with Minehead Middle School and other local partners.
This funding also means we can offer short and longer-term help, including emotional and psychological support for those affected. We’re continuing to work closely with local partners and communities affected to ensure funds are used where they’re needed most now and in the future.”
The Appeal remains open for donations.
